![]() ![]() This book has a reputation for having a dense prose, and I do agree to some extent. The main way this is done is through the prose. On the surface, it is a pretty simple and easy-to-follow story, however, this is the type of book that has just as much (if not more) stuff under the surface than on the surface. ![]() If you think that sounds like a rather simple story, well you’d be kinda right. As a result, he got exiled, and things become a bit complicated. Things seem to be going well for him until one day, he fell in love with one of the guild’s clients - people who they torture -, causing him to do the one thing torturers aren’t supposed to do, showing mercy to their victims. The book follows Severian, a teenager who’s slowly rising through the ranks of the Guild of Torturers. The Shadow of the Torturer is the first book in Gene Wolfe’s magnum opus, Book of the New Sun. ![]()
